| The trees, however, are actually plane trees attesting to the fact that Yalikavak has a very good supply of fresh water. A lone windmill in good condition stands on the shore near the harbour where local fishing boats anchor alongside touristic yachts. The village center is small and charming with cobbled walkways, many restaurants and cafes. Yalikavak was originally the seaport for the hillside village of Sandima but in recent years, the inhabitants moved from the village to the seaside, providing Yalikavak with sufficient population to become a municipality. Up a steep mountain road on the south side of Yalikavak is the village of Geris, the location being originally chosen to provide refuge for the residents from sea raiders. Today Geris has many foreign residents and is known for its cool breezes during the summer and its wonderful view. |
